Emergency exit lighting is mandatory in the event of a power outage. If emergency lighting is engaged during the daytime, most buildings are still dark inside. This introduces danger to the public, your staff and emergency response teams. Exit lights and emergency lighting equipment are designed to provide illumination and a safe environment during fire and power outages for a minimum of 30 minutes.
At FireShield, we have a proven track record with installation, inspection, repair and maintenance of emergency lighting units.
Exit Emergency Lighting Unit Installation
Before installation, we take into consideration the best emergency lighting design for your building as recommended by the engineer or architect. This involves determining the lighting options and levels that is suited for your needs and following Saskatchewan Building and fire safety code requirements.
We install systems in new and existing properties, along with integrating into your building’s entire fire and life safety system. We ensure that your emergency lighting system performs properly and that the power supply in place is adequate.
The primary codes used to determine proper application of emergency lighting systems in Saskatchewan include the following:
- International Building Code (IBC)
- NFPA 101: Life Safety Code
- NFPA 70: National Electrical Code
- NFPA 110: Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems
- NFPA 111: Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems
- NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code
Exit Emergency Lighting Inspections
FireShield provides testing and troubleshooting on all of your exit and emergency lighting units to ensure that it is fully operational during an emergency. We conduct testing by simulating a power failure by turning off the main power. During a power outage, the emergency lights should turn on, since they are battery operated. Upon completion, we provide an inspection report which outlines the performance of your system to show fire marshalls.
Exit Emergency Lighting Repair & Maintenance
In case of equipment damage, we provide replacement batteries, bulbs, chargers, and fuses to keep your emergency lighting units functioning properly. FireShield also provides high quality, brand-new exit and emergency lights prepared and in-stock when needed. We also offer LED exit lights, as they save power and last longer. Upon request, we provide quotes for any necessary parts which need to be replaced according to the National Fire Code, once our inspections and tests are completed.
All of FireShield’s emergency lighting units are UL Listed and approved for use in Canada.
